What kind of Honey is worth our time at Walmart? The chain that’s available anywhere besides the Dollar Stores. I picked up this Organic Great Value Raw Honey and was surprised by my review. Check it out below and see if this affordable and extremely accessible Honey is worth it.
- Honey – Brazillian, Rainforest, Light, Affordable.
- Color – Typical amber gold, definitely processed.
- Aroma – Slightly nutty with a little acidity and fruity.
- Flavor – Bright full bodied with floral and citrus notes
- Texture – Smooth and not thick and gummy.
Organic Great Value Raw Honey
I talk alot of smack about commercial Honey, but I’ve come to realize as I’ve been buying all sorts of different Honey products, that they actually have their uses. Sure you’re missing out on local benefits, and chances are its not what its being advertised as, but when something is affordable and you’re in need, why not?
This Organic Great Value Raw Honey is actually rather surprising. I like the fact the labeling is simple and accurate. They list U.S Grade A, which is short for highest quality extracted Honey, super clear and free of defects. Its been lab tested and likely heated and ultra filtered. Grade B would be on the terms of raw unheated and unfiltered. Most Hobby or local beekeepers fall under grade B. Unprocessed Honey can’t enter the grade A certification.
They clearly state its a product of Brazil. Nice! You know that’s the least these companies can do. If you’re not concerned with buying local Honey (which obviously I advocate for more local purchases ) its nice when they are upfront about origin and distribution. Its True Source Certified. This means that they are following U.S and International Trade Laws. Which primarily serve as traceability and authenticity testing. You’d expect this of Walmart. They are rather strict with their manufacturing and distribution.
True Source Certification Works like this:
True Source Certified permits honey to be tracked from the consumer in North America back through the supply chain to the country of origin and to the beekeeper that harvested the honey from the beehive.
Now you’ll see why I use the term Honey Packers as well. This Great Value Raw Honey is also Organic. Did you know that US Honey can’t claim to be Organic? Because you can’t control what bees pollinate.
They pollinate up to miles and miles away, so unless they are kept indoors in a greenhouse which is rather inhumane and doesn’t benefit the environment, they cant claim Organic Honey in the US. Internationally its another story. And it’s an easy way to identify if a Honey is foreign if it states Organic.
I found the Bee on the label the only thing that was rather …strange. Just the size and how big the wings are. Like I said, its extremely minimal branding. As Great Value often is.
This was available at Walmart for just under $6 for a 16oz squeeze bottle. The bottle is actually fantastic, its a ketchup style bottle and It’s actually really nice with the Honey. Yes, plastic, but, really clean and easy for pouring.
There were tons of reviews on Walmart’s website with many stating how much they like this Honey. Others make false claims stating its fake because it crystallized, or how they’ve added water to it.
In fact, if its Brazilian Honey it’s required they pass vigorous tests that show no additives and HMF levels up to 60mg. European Honey doesn’t have to claim whether its additive free or not. But Europe is rather strict about pesticides.
Majority of the reviews are in favor and I agree with them. This is fantastic Honey for the cost and availability. It’s just another Brazilian Honey, and there are TONS. But this was fantastic in my Homemade Bread and often used in my Black Teas.
Brazilian Honey
Did you know Honey produced in Brazil is commonly from Africanized Bees? Because of the strict laws on the rainforest, Brazil is also the largest organic producer of Honey in the world. Which is why we’ll commonly find it. Bees often are polyfloral or monofloral.
Meaning they use all they have available to them for pollination like common Wildflower Honey, or It’s monofloral meaning they were primarily sourcing one pollen source like Tupelo Honey or Orange Blossom.
You’d expect Brazilian Bees to source their pollen from the Paubrasil which is Brazils native Tree, or the Cipo-Uva with its beautiful flowers and grape like characteristics.
Where to Purchase Organic Great Value Raw Honey
On the back you’ll notice the nutrition label, ingredient of Organic Raw Honey, and where it was distributed. You can find Organic Great Value Raw Honey here on Walmart.com or at your local Store. I recommend this Honey over Amazon’s in house brand Happy Belly Honey.

Review Summary
Probably one of the most commercial Honey products you can find as its from Walmart and their Great Value brand. Truth is, I respect that there isn’t any deceiving marketing, its affordable at just under $6 for 1lb and it actually tastes good. I wasn’t expecting to like this, but I prefer it over many of the other commercial Honey products I’ve tried. I’d get it again for a sweet honey taste to things, but it doesn’t have much benefit other than being a sugar substitute. Try for a local source if you can.
